President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has signed a decree which legalizes online casinos. This information is reported by the agency “BelTA” with a reference to the press service of the head of state.
The decree legalizes gambling in the Internet and provides special licensing and taxation rules for operators of online casinos:
- online gambling operations are allowed only on the basis of a special permit (license);
- the law requires that an operator has a security deposit on a special account, which will be used to ensure payment of winnings and payments to the budget in the event of financial insolvency or the online casino operator;
- operators should grant the tax service remote access to their online casinos and connect them to a special computer cash system that provides control over the turnover;
- the decree also provides for identification of gamblers.
The signed decree has also increased the minimum age limit for both online and offline gamblers from 18 to 21 years. The decree no. 305 was signed by Lukashenko on August 7. News about Balerus’ plans to regulate online betting appeared on July 5, when the Belarusian Tax and Duties Ministry has informed about its draft decree.
