Medvedev has closed the Azov-City gambling zone

Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has signed the order to slose the Azov-City gambling zone in the Krasnodar Territory. The order is published on the official information portal.

Azov-City will be closed from December 31, 2018, the decree says. Azov-City is the first gambling zone in Russia, it was opened in 2009. The authorities were going to develop a resort on the coast of the Azov Sea, where the zone is located. After the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Medvedev signed a decree on the creation of a gambling zone “Krasnaya Polyana” in the same region in Sochi.

According to the law, only one gambling zone can exist in one region. Thus, the government decided to eliminate “Azov-City”. Last year, about 460 thousand people visited the gambling zone.
