The Russian telecom watchdog has fined Google 500 thousand rubles for refusing to remove illegal resources, including online casino websites, from search results, TASS informs.
Moreover, about 3 thousand gambling sites were blocked by the service in December. The blocked list of domains mostly consists of “mirrors” of famous brands of bookmaker offices. The list also includes 1961 poker rooms, online lotteries and online casinos domains.
According to Russian law, which entered into force on November 1, 2017, all search engine operators must be connected to a single registry of prohibited websites in order to promptly remove the relevant resources from the search results. More than 100,000 sites have been added to this register so far.
Currently, a draft law is being prepared, providing for a significant increase in fines for such violations – up to 1% of the company’s annual revenue in Russia. So, for example, for Google, this amount will be 452 million rubles.
