Ukraine’s Gambling Commission Member Accused of Bribery

On August 20, 2021, NABU (anti corruption body in Ukraine) detectives, under the guidance of SAP (the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office) prosecutors, detained a current member of the Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (KRAIL) while receiving an illegal benefit in the amount of $ 90,000. The official demanded funds for assistance in granting permits and licenses for the gambling business.

In the summer of 2021, NABU detectives received information about the corruption scheme related to the issuance of gambling permits and licenses. In order to expose the criminal scheme, NABU, in agreement with the SAP, developed and carried out a set of covert investigative (search) actions with the participation of undercover detectives.

As part of the investigation, detectives documented evidence that a member of the Gambling Commission, who was also an acting head of KRAIL, received 90 thousand USD as a bribe for granting gambling permits for oparing in 2 regions of Ukraine. Krail has published an official post stating that Ivan Rudy, who is the head of the Ukraine’s Gambling Commission was not involved into the investigation, but confirmed the investigation procedures are carried out in the office.
