Ukraine’s newly appointed PM to decide the future of gambling in Ukraine

Member of the Ukrainian parliament form “Servant of the People” party Danilo Hetmantsev has been interviewed by Ukrainian Internet publication Economid Pravda (EP).  It is worth noting that Danilo worked for the lottery operator “MSL” and now acknowledges the existence of a conflict of interest in the issue of gambling.

“My views on gambling industry were shaped on behalf of one of the players in the market. Actually, that’s why I refrain from participating in the work on the gambling bill. I have certain conflict of interests that I do not hide, so I do not want to deal with this in the team. We agreed on this from the beginning. However, I do understand how gambling should be regulated,” Hetmantsev said.

According to the MP, the market should be divided into two sectors: mass market and offline casinos limited to one premise. If it is a casino, there must be requirements, at least to operate in five-star hotels only.  The mass market gambling should be limited by the number of operators. These operators have to work under the strict control of the state. Hetmantsev said that complete legalization of gambling would be a disaster for Ukraine.

Danilo Hetmantsev’s interview has also confirmed the news that the legalization of the gambling market should be expected very soon, as the president said publicly. Hetmantsev also informed that the bill is being supervised by Oleksiy Goncharuk, who has been appointed as the Prime Minister of Ukraine today.
