Ukrainian poker player wins the first WPT Russia

Poker player from Ukraine Denis Shafikov won the World Poker Tour Russia Main Event. The first Russian stage of the WPT series ended at the Sochi casino on January 27, 2019. The Main Event champion won the main trophy of the tournament, a ticket to the WPT Tournament of Champions worth 15 thousand dollars and a cash prize of 16.8 million rubles.

It was Shafikov who was the chip leader of the competition at the start of the final day, and he managed to maintain his advantage, beating around four Russians and one Belarusian. Broadcast competition with open cards was conducted on the Internet.

  5.     Mikhail Galitsky, Russia – 4.13 million rubles
  6.     Oleg Pavlyuchuk, Russia – 3.36 million rubles

The World Poker Tour Russia was the first WPT tournament officially held in Russia. The event took place in Sochi Casino and Resort from 18 to 27 January. The main event with a buy-in of 198 thousand rubles was attended by 503 players. The prize fund of the event reached 90.54 million rubles.
