Czech-based Sazka Group has bought into SuperSport, Croatia’s largest sports betting operator. Sazka has bought a controlling stake in SuperSport, Crotia’s leading online and land-based sports betting operator in revenue terms.
SuperSport has grown rapidly since the business was founded in 2000 and holds licenses and concessions in land-based and online sports-betting granted by the Croatian Government until 2025.
Robert Chvátal, CEO of the Sazka Group said:
“The acquisition of SuperSport, the market leading Croatian sports-betting company by GGR, has compelling strategic logic, giving SAZKA Group access to an attractive gaming market while strengthening the Group’s position in the dynamic online sports-betting industry.‘‘
Sazka is one of Europe’s largest lottery and gaming operators with household brands including Casinos Austria, LottoItalia and OPAP in countries such as Austria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Greece and Italy. The aggregate annual amount of bets placed with companies in which the SAZKA Group holds an ownership interest are in excess of €17bn and are served through over 62,500 points of sale as well as through online channels and offered under respective licences.
Sazka’s revenue reached €1.13bn in 2017, giving a year-on-year increase of 177 per cent due mainly to the inclusion of OPAP’s operations for the whole year.
In January 2017 SuperSport launched Croatia’s first licensed online poker room, adding poker to its casino and sports betting site. SuperSport operates over 300 land-based slot halls and sports betting shops along with one casino and has been present in the local market for 13 years.
