The Ukrainian budget does not receive a penny of taxes from the gambling industry, because most of gambling establishments and lotteries operate illegally. This was stated on March 23 by Finance Minister Alexander Danilyuk, who called on the Verkhovna Rada to legalize the gambling business.
The Minister noted that in many developed countries the funds from gambling are directed to the development of social needs, while in Ukraine this issue is not solved.
“There is a draft law in the Verkhovna Rada, which should regulate this issue in general, and I appeal to you, because this law has not been considered for more than two years, it’s stuck here in parliament. There is a request to you: to help us legalize the gambling business, “- said Danilyuk.
The minister stressed that now the state does not receive a “penny” from the gambling business, which is unacceptable. Gambling in Ukraine was banned in the summer of 2009, and non-government lotteries were outlawed in Ukraine in 2012.
At the same time, the International Monetary Fund insists on legalizing gaming in Ukraine. The fact is that the lack of regulation in this area does not protect the country from “underground” casinos and illegal lotteries, and the budget at the same time receives less taxes.
